Horse hooves

In the equine world, hoof tar is an established treatment to prevent drying out, cracks and rot. An application of pine tar by the nail holes on the outside of the hoof protects against dried out earth and clay and reduces the risk of rot between shoe and hoof. Above all, farriers often recommend pine tar as a hoof treatment during wet periods of the year, although some grooms use tar on their horses several times a week.
